As Your Councillor, I will:
Fight to reduce the tax burden on home owners
Halifax relies disproportionately on property taxes. In 2021-2022, 81% of the city’s revenue came from property taxes, whereas the municipal average was only 63%. I aim to diversify Halifax’s sources of revenue in order to ease the burden on homeowners.
Help ensure tenants' rights are protected
With rents having increased rapidly in the last few years, it’s more important than ever to make sure tenants aren’t illegally pushed or priced out of their homes. The average rent in Halifax went up by 11.9% in 2023, a new record. For comparison, inflation in Canada was 3.88% in 2023.
Improve road safety for everyone
Everyone deserves to feel safe on the road, whether they’re a pedestrian, cyclist or driver. Though Halifax has begun to make strides when it comes to active transportation, it still lags behind cities like Montreal. I will push to speed up the creation of bike corridors and traffic calming measures, which benefit all road users.
Respond promptly to your concerns
My number one priority will be to serve the residents of Halifax West Armdale. That means that your concerns are my concerns: from day-to-day issues like snow clearing and garbage collection to bigger-picture questions like housing and infrastructure. Treating you with respect and consideration is key.
